FAQ's

Q:: What is San Marcos Sierras like?

A:: In addition to what we have already included on our website and poster, you can read more about it here:

Q:: What does the workshop fee include?

A:: The workshop fee of $3500.00 includes:
·       Accommodations for 18 nights in San Marcos Sierras, Argentina.
·       2 Home cooked meals per day (breakfast and dinner)
·       Transportation to and from the Cordoba International Airport on pre-specified days
·       A selection of building materials indigenous to the area as well as the use of power hand tools
·       Access to an 18 acre open site to build full scale structures of your own design
·       End of Workshop celebration
·       The workshop fee DOES NOT INCLUDE airfare as well as any extra curricular travel expenses

Q:: What kind of clothing should I bring?

A:: The temperature in San Marcos during the winter months of July and August are fairly moderate, ranging from 40 degree F nights to 60 degree F days.  We recommend you bring hiking boots for mixed terrain in addition to all purpose shoes, a few sweaters/sweatshirts, shorts and even a bathing suit for the possible river swim.  The most important thing to remember is to bring clothes that are durable, warm, and expendable.  You will be outside for a large part of the day and working in a rugged landscape.

Q:: Will  there be vegetarian/vegan meal options?

A:: Yes

Q:: What types of accommodations are available?

A:: We have several buildings and rooms to choose from.  All rooms are shared rooms, 2-3 beds/room.  We also have a couple teepees on the property that sleep 2 people each.  The property also has wireless internet, laundry and shower facilities, a full kitchen, projector for movies and slideshows, and horses to ride if you’re so inclined.

Q:: Can we receive academic credit for this workshop?

A:: This is an independent design|build workshop and could very well be accepted by your university for academic credit.  You will have to propose this workshop as an independent study to your respective administrators.  We will provide you with a written evaluation upon completion of the workshop as well as assist you with documentation of the process and final product.

Q:: What is required of me while attending Analog Design|Build Lab?

A:: We expect you to bring a positive attitude, energetic proactive rigor, open mind and collaborative spirit.  The program is set up to allow you as much freedom and independence as you need to reach your own personal goals.  Each participant may be exploring something different.  You can choose to work in groups or independently, we as instructors are there to see that your goals are met with success.
That being said, it is our goal that you document your process beginning on day 1 with your initial sketches and models and continue to catalog the work as you construct the full scale installation.

Q:: What exactly does Analog mean for this program?  Does it mean we can’t use a computer?

A:: Not at all.  You are encouraged to use any tools at your disposal for the design.  If that means you want to begin the investigation using a computer, by all means.  The analog aspect of this program is in the building approach.  It is a hands on, one to one construction engagement that is only limited by your abilities to problem solve.

Q:: Apart from clothing, what else should I bring?

A:: You should bring a sketchbook, drawing+writing utensils of your choice, digital camera, laptop(optional), tripod, ipod, and anything else that will entertain you during your free time.
